Service No 1 is actually the better version of “GI5”, It is one of the two late standard issues of Gurkhas (“Service Ceremonial” being the other one) that came in production from mid-1980’s. It is closely associated to the Gurkhas and is one of the Gurkhas favorite because of its better feature compared to its older counterpart. It is also one of the most common khukri in the local Nepali Khukuri market. Since a standard issue from 1950’s onwards is typically a parade knife, we needed a shiny and smart kukri knife that would complement the dress.

Late 1980’s witnessed huge production of Service No.1 for military standards, more production was also seen in the local market to meet the ever increasing demand for a standard issue “high quality” Gurkha knife. TB BK’s noble action to give better shape and shine won the hearts of selectors instantly stormed the military and public demand whose copy is still being used today and whose production is still one of the highest even today.
From the formation of 1st Gurkha unit in 1814 to the Great Indian Mutiny in 1857 and the Great War in 1914-18 to 2nd world war in 1944-45 to Borneo Confrontation in 1962-66 to Falklands war in 1982 Gurkhas have been issued with a number of khukuris amongst which Service No.1 is probably the most famous of all because it’s a modern day issue, has close ties with Gurkhas, that represents the Gurkhas undeniable faith towards his duty.

The blade of Sarkhari Kukri is well polished, the size and style is slightly modified as that of GI5. Its perfect size and range, well balanced weight, smart finishing and effective feature make it an ideal knife to use for just about anything that requires cutting.

The handle like its counterparts is made from Buffalo Horn to match with their dress specially the boots. A rat tail tang goes through the handle (hidden) which is peened over at the brass pommel.

Since this kukri is typically a parade knife its sheath is made from extra shiny patent leather to complement the uniform they wear.
